Path of Exile is a totally free to play Diablo style game, but as you can see from this video (and the others that are up on youtube), it can be vastly more complicated, owing to the huge skill tree and the gem combinations you can put in your weapons and gear.

Also of note is the lack of currency like in traditional online games, instead of money you sell items to vendors for scrolls and gems and flasks (which don't work at all like you expect) which allow you to upgrade your current gear.

In the game you can also go to the Map Room and create maps, which are like your own dungeons (you can go in with up to 6 players), and the maps have stats, so you might have a map that increase magic find or has more monsters. Maps can also be upgraded!
